Rep. Celeste Appointed Chair of Alternative Energy, Higher Education Committees Sites Goals of Green Economy, College Accessibility and Affordability
COLUMBUS– State Representative Ted Celeste (D-Grandview Heights) announced today that Speaker Armond Budish has appointed him chairman of two key committees in the 128th General Assembly- the Alternative Energy Committee and the Higher Education Subcommittee. Celeste said he is excited to serve as the chairman of two committees which will play a vital role in the efforts to move Ohio forward.
“As Chairman of the House Alternative Energy Committee, I plan to hit the ground running and do everything I can to transform Ohio into the heart of alternative energy manufacturing,” Celeste said. “We have the knowledge base, ingenuity, diversity of talent, and work ethic that will allow us to become a leader in this emerging field. We will manufacture the wind turbines, solar panels and fuel cells and cleanly utilize our coal. This will truly transform our state into a green economy, benefitting Ohio both in the short and long term.”
Celeste, who served nine years on The Ohio State University Board of Trustees, said he also looks forward to serving as chairman of the Higher Education Subcommittee where he will focus on making our state‟s colleges and universities accessible and affordable to every Ohioan. “We educate more students at our colleges and universities than nearly any other state, but when they graduate, they too often leave our state. In addition to making a college education accessible and affordable, my top goal is to find solutions to that „brain drain‟ and to give graduates reasons to stay in Ohio to live, work, and raise a family.”
The Grandview Heights Democrat, who is also a member of the board at SciTech and TechColumbus, will also serve on the Finance and Appropriations, Consumer Affairs and Economic Protection, and Judiciary committees.
